Music Revival’s WINTER FESTIVAL features daily events from Sunday 11 to Sunday 18 July.
The WINTER FESTIVAL begins with Christopher Duigan playing Celebrating Chopin II on Sunday 11 July at the Tatham Art Gallery at 3:30 pm. Celebrating Chopin I & II has been presented in over 30 performances across South Africa since February 2010 and most recently received accolades and brilliant reviews at the recent Grahamstown National Festival. The concert is FREE, with donations collected after the performance. The concert is presented in association with Friends of the Tatham Art Gallery (FOTAG). On Monday 12 at 7:30 pm Duigan presents a detailed demonstration of various elements in Chopin’s music as well as discussion of the interpretive choices, as seen in his recent Chopin performances. Tickets are R80 which includes soup, gluhwein and coffee. The venue, at 35 Montgomery Drive, opens at 7:00 pm and booking is essential.
Other events at 35 Montgomery Drive this week, with all booking via Music Revival 033 3423051 or email@example.com, include A Taste of Tango on Tuesday evening with Stanislav Angelov – acclaimed leader of the Cape Town Tango Ensemble playing accordion, a wine, food and music pairing with wines from various estates as represented by VDP Distributors on Thursday evening, and Playing with Poetry which sees local poet Floss Mitchell reading poems from her recent collection interleaved with piano music on Friday.
A outdoor event with singer/songwriters Rowan Stuart and Shannon Hope, both Durban based, take placed in the garden setting at the venue on Saturday afternoon while a selection of songs from around the world with baritone Federico Freschi is on the cards ( indoors)for those wanting to enjoy a fun evening. Guests are invited to take their own picnic & drinks for both performances.
Other events in the week include Parklane Super Spar’s Vive le France – A Bastille Day Dinner of Wednesday 14 July at 6:30, a Free Lunch Hour Concert at the Tatham Art Gallery also on Wednesday, and a performance by top South African opera singers Bronwen Forbay and Federico Freschi on Sunday 18 July at Tumble Downs on the Curry’s Post Road in the KZN Midlands.
