Proud parents have welcomed home their newly crowned world champions, the Tygerberg children’s choir, at Cape Town International Airport.
The youngsters pipped more than 470 choirs from 83 countries to win the title at the 6th World Choir games in China at the weekend.
Cape Town mayor Dan Plato joined more than 200 friends and family members at the airport, and was treated to a demonstration of the talent that won them their world title upon arrival.
In return, the youngsters were welcomed back in true South African fashion with blaring vuvuzelas.
A father of one of the choristers, Andre Buys, told Eyewitness News he was over the moon to be the father of a world champion.
The youngsters said their vocal victory was beyond their wildest dreams. They say their next goal will be to retain their title as champions of the choral world.
