Celebrating Chopin has played in over 40 concerts since January this year. These include performance in Johannesburg, Classic FM Soirées – Pretoria, Kimberley, HiltonCollege, Howard College Theatre – Durban, Franschhoek Literary Festival and Grahamstown National Arts Festival.
On the 200th anniversary of Fredrick Chopin’s birth in Żelazowa Wola, near Warsaw, Poland in 1810, Christopher Duigan marks this special occasion with a selection on music focusing on this composer’s highly engaging musical output.
The programme fro the Centre for the Book performance in Cape Town includes Waltz in C-sharp minor, ‘Minute’ Waltz, Nocturne in E-flat, Ballade No 1 op 23, Mazurkas, ‘Raindrop’ Prelude, Fantasie-Impromptu and ‘Heroic ’Polonaise op 53.
Christopher Duigan is widely regarded as one of the country’s leading concert artists, and has been recently hailed as a South African piano icon and a ‘national music treasure’ (Classic Feel, June 2009). He appears regularly as soloist on South Africa’s premier concert stages.
In March 2010 Christopher Duigan was invited to join the Steinway Artists Roster joining an ‘exquisite circle’ of renowned musicians, including Artur Rubenstein, Vladimir Horowitz, Alfred Brendel, Lang Lang, Keith Jarrett and Diana Krall.
