Easter weekend music spectacular at Artscape
South African musical legends are set to shine at the seventh annual Night of the Legends Music Concert at Artscape on Saturday 23 April at 20:00.
Artscape in conjunction with C Sun’s Promotions are pulling together a show where legendary artists and rising stars will share the stage to reflect on their time and successes in the music industry. Organisers say that this is a concert designed to entertain, bring back memories and soothe the souls of music lovers. Over the last six years this event has enjoyed great success and this year promises even more.
One of the legends on the line-up is Caiphus Semenya. This well-known legend has been in the music business since the 1960s and has built a solid reputation as a musical director and composer while working with his wife, vocalist Letta Mbulu.
Semenya has also collaborated with other well-known exiled artists such as Hugh Masekela and Miriam Makeba. In Los Angeles in the United States he worked with global stars like Nina Simone and Quincy Jones. He returned to South Africa in 1990 but his career remains firmly rooted in an international arena with performances in America, Europe and elsewhere in Africa.
One of the younger performers is Malizole Fololo, a 24-year-old singer, first noticed by C Suns Records. He sings Afro Pop music. This star that grew up in Umtata and currently lives in Gauteng is recording his own album to be launched at the end of April.
Artscape and C Sun’s Promotions also present In His Presence Gospel Concert on Sunday 24 April at 15:00 to celebrate Easter. Other artists performing the weekend are Reverend Benjamin Dube and Lundi Tyamara.
“This will be a never seen before gospel production. We plan to bring on stage the cream of the crop in the gospel music industry,” say the organisers. “People will be on their feet for the whole duration of this performance.
Pastor Benjamin Dube has been described as a music ministerial visionary. He is a songwriter, singer, music producer, mentor and father. He has released 16 gospel albums and his music has taken him around the world. In 2009 he was awarded the Best Male Artist and the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Crown Gospel Music Awards.
Lundi Tyamara has proven over again since 1998 when his musical career started that he is undoubtedly talented. His self-titled new album “Lundi” has added new flavour to his music, his fans are familiar with it and he now caters for audiences across all ages. The greatness of his music has allowed him to sell over half a million copies of his records to date. Lundi has contributed to several charities. He has also used his talents as a recording artist, performer and songwriter to nurture other aspiring artists and has secured record deals for them.
