Dear Choir Friends

While we have been very quiet with news so far this year, we have been working hard preparing for the new season. We have an incredibly exciting programme and we are really looking forward to the concerts!

Included in our repertoire for 2011 are:

Duo Seraphim (Francisco Guerrero)

Gloria (From Edinburgh Mass, Gabriel Jackson)

O Vos Omnes (Vaughan Williams)

Magnificat (Arvo Pärt)

Hodie Christus Natus Est (Poulenc)

Suite de Lorca (Einojuhani Rautavaara)

Unicornis Captivatur (Ola Gjeilo)

The Blue Bird (Charles Villiers Stanford)

Various folk songs.

Our first concert is on Thursday 5 May at the St Georges Cathedral in Cape Town. It starts at 7:30pm and we share the stage with the Colorado Children’s Chorale ( ). Tickets are R80 (adults) and R40 (pensioners and students). Tickets are available at the door (unreserved seats) as well as from Rhoda Patterson ( / 083 573 5811).

After that we host the Mississippi College Singers as well as the UCT choir in a concert on 18 May in Jameson Hall. More information on that concert will be available closer to the date.

Other great news is that we’re on our way to compete in the 2nd Grand Prix of Choral Music in Graz, Austria, during the July holidays ( . This is a very prestigious competition in that only choirs that have won recognised international competitions in the past, are invited to take part. The choir departs end of June for a concert tour of England and Belgium and will go to Graz on the 11th of July for the competition.

On this note I would like to put a request to our supporters: we have ±7 or 8 choir members who are not able to raise the full fee for the tour (R15,500 per choir member for the 2½ week tour). If anyone out there is willing to contribute towards their costs, or if you have any good contacts with companies or institutions that we can contact for donations, PLEASE contact me?

Also a reminder that all previous Pro Cantu recordings can now be downloaded online from .

Kind regards!
