SAMRO Hubert van der Spuy National Music Competition

Background:
The SAMRO Hubert van der Spuy National Music Competition is organised by the Tygerberg branch of the South African Society of Music Teachers and was inspired by the SASMT’s Hubert van der Spuy 24 years ago.

National auditions took place in May 2012 and 60 participants were selected to compete in the competition that will take place from 24-28 September 2012. The competition provides a platform for thriving talent amongst young musicians with prizes worth more than R50 000 for the winners and their teachers. It is sponsored by SAMRO, UNISA, the ATKV, the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre, Music@Work and several other anonymous donors.

Opening Ceremony: 24 September 2012
Venue: Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium
Time:18h00
Info: The opening ceremony will feature the talented young pianist Kensuke Kawajiri (pianist) the winner of the 2011 competition and the Hugo Lambrechts Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Liam Burden. The programme will include Piano Concerto No. 2 in F major, Op. 102 – D. Shostakovich and Dance Bacchanale -C.Saint-Saens.

Tuesday, 25 September 2012
08:30 Round 1 will commence.

Wednesday, 26 September 2012
08:30 Round 2. Compulsory for all participants.
At the end of the second round the certificates of participation will be handed to all participants.
Announcement of the participants for the third round.

Thursday, 27 September 2012
14:00 Round 3
The finalists will be announced at the end of this round

Gala Evening: 28 September 2012
Venue: Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium
Time: 19h00
Info: The finalists will perform at this prestigious event and the winners will be announced at the close of the evening.
