Amazing Music Teachers!

Amazing teacher!!!!Teacher and amazing accompanist

The Monte Vista Primary Music Department is growing each year and currently there are 37 Piano and Keyboard learners, 28 learners who are learning the Guitar and 64 learners playing the Recorder.

This year the Music Department presented two informal concerts at the end of the first and second term in order to give our learners public exposure. For most of them these concerts were the first opportunity to play in front of people, and they handled it exceptionally well.

We also had two formal concerts this year where a number of our young musicians performed – the Isabel Alberts Tribute Concert in September and the Music Evening in October. At the Isabel Alberts Concert, learners from our neighbour schools were also invited to perform with our learners, and the programme was of a very high standard. At the Music Evening, all our music learners had the opportunity to perform. We also invited Steven Chang, winner of this year’s National Sanlam Music Competition for primary school learners, who performed as our guest artist. It was a privilege to hear him play the piano, and our learners had the exposure to hear what the highest standard in the country sounds like.

Nine of our learners played Unisa exams this year. Five of them passed with distinction (80% and higher), and four passed with honorary mention (70 – 79%).

The following learners passed with distinction:
Kayla Hastings Pre-Grade 1 88%
Roxanne de Freitas Pre-Grade 1 86%
Jeremy Hillier Grade 4 84%
Chelsea Ziegler Grade 1 81%
Alex Galhardo Pre-Grade 1 80%
Nicole Bloemhoff (Pre-Grade 1), Mart-Marié Serfontein (Grade 2), Louise Smuts (Grade 1) and Christine Schreuder (Grade 2) passed with honorary mention.

5 Lof (80 – 89%)
1 Eervolle Vermelding (70 – 79%)

Die volgende leerders behaal hoogste lof:
Jeremy Hillier (Klavier x3)
Jeffrey Hong (Klavier x 2)
Nicole Bloemhoff (Klavier)
Alex Galhardo (Klavier)
Lelanie Landman (Sang x 2)
Blokfluit ensemble 9 jaar en onder

Jeremy Hillier received the trophy for the best piano achievement 10 years and under, as well as the trophy for the best performance in the Bach section, 10 years and under. He was also invited to play at the Prestige Concert of the Eisteddfod, which is a big honour for our school. Jeremy also participated in the Stellenbosch eisteddfod in May this year, and achieved a Cum Laude (above 90%) and an A-plus (87 – 89%).
