This prestigious competition, which has been dubbed one of the Big Three music competitions in South Africa, consists of four rounds where some 30 participants play in the first two rounds. A maximum of 12 will go through to the third round, whereafter a maximum of six finalists will perform with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra in the final round.
The competition is open to pianists and orchestral instrumentalists. It affords young classical musicians the opportunity to develop their musical and technical skills under competitive circumstances. This is the only South African youth music competition where the finalists perform with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra.
Participants may not be younger than 14 or older than 19 years of age on 9 October 2010.. A maximum of thirty (30) competitors will be selected for the competition. The closing date for entries is 26 March 2010.
